For LED Model:
LED operating voltage: 3V DC
A resistor must be used for different operating voltages.
How to calculate the resistor value:
Use Ohms Law plus 100 Ohms.
E = IR
E = Voltage of your circuit
I = The Current of your LED
R = The value of the resistor to use
In a 14V circuit:
(This is calculating using 20mA LED current)
R=(V-Vf)/A
R= (14V-3V)/0.02A
R= 11/0.02
R=550 ohms
Use a 650 ohm resistor in this circuit.
This power across this resistor will be 301mW, so a 1/2W (500mW) rated resistor will work.
You can buy a resistor to suit a 14V/Automotive application here
Note:
Longer LED lead is positive (+)
Shorter LED lead is negative (-)
